Pongo

Pongo is a top-notch, beautiful, well-mannered, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He is a tricolor with perfect long ears, proper AKC weight (16 lbs.), striking markings, and passes on these beautiful colors to his puppies. Can produce all four colors (blenheim, tricolor, ruby, and black & tan). He comes from a long line of show dogs (Showdown Lines) with champions in his lineage. He sports that champion physic and trot. He runs around with a prideful jog and has the perfect panting smile. He plays fetch, chases birds, and is calm and loving. He is spoiled by our family.  He has had many litters with a success rate that is near perfect when the female has had a progesterone test.

A Clear Stud

If your female is a carrier for a disease such as DM or Dry Eye Curly Coat, then she can potentially pass on a carrier gene. If she carries both genes from her parents then she will always pass on one gene.  Aside from being beautiful, that is why Pongo is such a great stud!  He will never pass on a disease gene to any of his puppies.

Be Educated When Choosing a Stud

Questions to ask your breeder. There are a lot of fantastic and reputable breeders out there. There are a few gotchas you'll want to avoid by asking the right questions. Some people advertise that they have a healthy dog or a clear bill of health. That doesn't mean they have been genetically tested. Make sure your stud is genetically tested, but just posting that the stud is "genetically tested" doesn't mean he has amazing genetic results. Be sure to ask specifically whether the genetic testing shows he is clear of Degenerative Myelopathy (DM), Dry Eye Curly Coat Syndrome (CC/DE), Muscular Dystrophy (MD), Episodic Falling Syndrome (EFS), Skeletal Dysplasia (SD).

Is Genetic Testing Necessary on Your Female?

If you have had a genetic panel done on your female that’s great! If you have not done a genetic panel you will still produce pups unaffected by common cavalier diseases when bred to Pongo. I would still recommend having a genetic panel done, however. To pass on a disease to a pup, both parents have to be carriers of the disease. Fortunately, Pongo is not a carrier like most males. If your female is a carrier for a disease such as DM or Dry Eye Curly Coat, then she can potentially pass on a carrier gene. If she carries both genes from her parents then she will always pass on one gene. That is why Pongo is such a great stud! He will never pass on a disease gene to any of his puppies. The chart below is helpful in understanding the genetics of common cavalier diseases and what could potentially be passed to pups. Pongo on the chart would be Paternal Healthy (+/+). I know this can be a little complicated. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about this.

Pongo's OFA Certifications, Pedigree, and other Health Papers

The document below includes 14 pages of DNA testing on Pongo. It is a rarity to find a Cavalier completely clear of any genetic disorders including and especially Degenerative Myelopathy (DM), Episodic Falling Syndrome (EFS), Dry Eye Curly Coat Syndrome, and Muscular Dystrophy.

These OFA documents below prove healthy heart, hips, elbows, patellas and eyes

This document below shows that Pongo's eyes were checked by an ophthalmologist and determined free and clear of any eye issues.
